Better than a two headed snake

A Five-toed White Winged Dove came in the other day. It's a malformation/deformation of sorts. Not sure whether in was a double yoke or what.

The one leg thats curled up has a possible solid bone. The other active leg (shown on right) seems to be split and almost forming two individual feet. I can't wait to investigate further into this.

Maybe there is an ossified tendon in the less active leg? If after necropsy, you would like to see CT images, I can arrange for this (and I could return the sample, since it is non-destructive process).

In any case, please do share the results of further investigations!

Yeah.. I considered the ossified tendon hypothesis after you suggested it. However, I haven't gotten any real info on this case after I left work that day.

This is not to say that I won't. It's just a bit delayed being that it's round three of baby bird season.

I intend to dissect asap.
I promise let you know of the results. I doubt though if the director would allow for any samples sent out.. etc. It's not my organization. (hopefully you don't think I'm being a bitch.. for I am quite interested.)
Ah, but your organization has released many specimens to me already, and I am very grateful for those, by the way! I have just taken CT images of the Downy Woodpecker. I hope to post them soon (after some processing time).

Do you "recognize" me now? As a hint, I study in San Diego, I do possess a valid Scientific Collection Permit, and I have secured samples from your center via an "agent" who could be described as tall, dark, and handsome :)
That is interesting. Don't ask me, though. I wouldn't have the foggiest clue. XD
Yeah but it's so neat isn't it?!
Yeah, it is. :)
